The only video I’ve seen so far that goes into detail about the paddle not going past vertical. The one thing I was surprised by is that his arms are bent. Is that particular to sea kayaking? Because with a sprint kayak on flat water you have your arms straight right?

Crazy good, Oscar! I wonder what that view ahead of your surfski looks like when your brain processes it, after those 10 of thousands of hours in a surfski, going downwind! Have you ever estimated how many hours you roughly spent in your life going downwind? I'd be curious...

Is this right side brace issue connected with the angle of the shaft, meaning that most use something like 60 degrees? I've noticed that I brace farther back on my right because that way I do not have to bend my wrist as much, buuut that makes the brace itself less effective (hence the swims that happened over the years are almost all on the right, left brace is rock solid). And because of this I by reflex tend to use the left brace all of the time, which again makes for a big difference in stability. Is zero feather the solution to fix this or just practice on the right? Cheers.

Oscar, I am struck by similarities of our situations. Same sport (I attended one of your sessions in Toronto, Cda), same age, same family (2 kids) … and same fight (multiple myloma, in August 2022)! Chemo, stem cell transplant and all is good. Planning to get back in the boat May 30th, 1 yr day for day after left hip transplant bc of cancer. Taking all the little victories every day and keep taking it day by day. You’re a great inspiration. Paddle up! Cheers, Jean

Aloha Oscar. Thanks for the videos. I notice your arm recovery seems lower than what I see in Olympic sprint kayaking. What are the pros and cons of a lower arm recovery? I am thinking lower center of gravity and less stress on the shoulders may be a pro.
